Cows Return To The Farm

Hilltop Hanover Farm is very excited to announce they are returning to their roots, as well as starting a new chapter in their history with the introduction of four Dutch Belted cattle to the farm.

Recently Clover arrived with her new calf Cosmo, and her mother Cocoa.  On July 31 Cocoa gave birth to the first calf to be born on the farm in over 23 years.   Please help name the new calf by voting for one of the names on the Hilltop Hanover Farm website, and join the join them August 16th for a Cookies &  Milk Naming Party at 12 noon.

The last time there were cows at Hilltop Hanover Farm we still had Walkmans, and kale was something you fed cows!  The Farm, then called Hanover Hill Farm, was owned by Henry and Molly McMahon Christal, and was known worldwide for its prize-winning Guernsey and Holstein cattle.

Dutch Belted cattle are known for their gentleness, hardiness and efficiency on grass, and are rare in the United States.  With the help of Carol Lake, our new Director of Education and experienced herds-woman, the Farm is looking forward to establishing a small breeding program, and plan to train and sell upcoming generations of cattle to other education institutions and farms.

Hilltop is also looking for companies, corporations, and local residents who would be willing to become sponsors or donors for the new pilot breeding program, and the classes and workshops our new bovine friends will be allowing them to teach.
