Organic Yard Waste & Leaves

Town of Yorktown New York Official Website

The Town of Yorktown has "closed the loop on recycling" with the collection, processing and giving-back of organic wood waste. Residents can drop off branches, logs, leaves, grass clippings and shrubbery at no expense. In addition, residents can help themselves to a variety of mulches and woodchips. This facility is also the depot for biodegradable paper leaf bags, branches, logs and Christmas trees collected by Yorktown's Environmental Conservation, Parks and Highway departments. Bring your tree branches; logs; leaves & grass clippings to:

YORKTOWN'S ORGANIC YARD WASTE FACILITY
2200 Greenwood Street

7:30 am - 2:45 pm Monday - Friday (year round)
7:30 am - 2:45 pm Saturdays (mid-April - November 17)
excluding holidays observed by the Town of Yorktown

* Check-in with Attendant
* Proof of Residency Required
* Help yourself to free wood chips (red & natural) and compost - based on availability
* No plastic bags, sod (grassy clumps with roots & soil), rocks, debris or trash!
* Help yourself to logs for firewood, but no chainsaws or log splitters allowed

Paper leaf bags are composted with sewage sludge to form a relatively stable, humus-like
product which is an excellent soil conditioner. Because of the presence of sewage sludge,
this mulch is NOT recommended for vegetable gardens.

You must sign a Town-issued PERMIT FORM to allow your landscaper to dispose yard waste or pickup wood chips at this facility. Permit forms are available at the Environmental Conservation Dept. and Highway Dept.

Commercial Landscapers, Tree Services, and Lawn Services
must purchase annual YARD PERMITS

for each vehicle that will be making disposals at this facility.
Call the Environmental Conservation Department
(914) 245-4438 for information.
