Yorktown Hosts Business Development Breakfast Meeting

Press release date: Tue Aug 30th, 2011

Tomorrow, Wednesday, August 31st at 9:00am, the Town of Yorktown, in conjunction with the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce, is hosting a Business Development breakfast meeting for local businesses. In addition to introducing John Winter, the new Building Inspector, to the local business community, the purpose of the meeting is to explain procedures and offer tips to help expedite any applications for permits and expansions.

“This is yet another effort the Town is making to assist local businesses with new development and expansions,” Supervisor Susan Siegel said. “Over the course of the last year or so, we have streamlined the administrative process, initiated an online database to help locate and promote available commercial space, held kick-off meetings with developers and Town staff to review new proposals, and now this informational meeting to explain the requirements and procedures of the application/permitting process.”

Siegel will formally introduce Winter to the business community and he, along with John Tegeder, Planning Director, Sharon Robinson, Town Engineer, and Bruce Barber, the Town’s environmental consultant, will explain procedures and offer tips on how to best avoid common application pitfalls.

“For years we’ve all heard the refrain that Yorktown isn’t business friendly, but in fact, that simply isn’t true anymore but it isn’t easy to shed that reputation,” Siegel stated. “We are working to make substantial improvements, and getting everyone in the same room and talking to one another should go a long way in dispelling those misconceptions.”
