Property Tax Freeze Credit

The Property Tax Freeze Credit is a tax relief program that reimburses qualifying New York State homeowners for increases in local property taxes on their primary residence, if certain conditions are met.

The Property Tax Freeze Credit is intended to encourage local governments and school districts to comply with the tax cap and develop approved government efficiency plans to reduce costs.

Homeowners do not have to apply as the state will review all who are eligible.  It is unclear when refunds will arrive.

To receive the 2015 refund, property owners must meet the following requirements:

  1. Must receive the STAR property tax exemption
  2. Property must be the homeowner's primary residence
  3. The total household income must be $500,000 or less
