Cooling Centers Open in Yorktown

The Jefferson Valley Mall, John C. Hart Memorial Library, and St. Mary's Church in Mohegan Lake are open as cooling centers this week in response to extreme heat. Daytime highs are predicted to reach the mid-90s through Friday.

Hart Library
Visitors to the library are required to wear a face mask. The library will be open until 8 pm Thursday and until 5 pm on Friday.

JV Mall
The mall will be open until 7 pm Thursday and until 8 pm on Friday.

St. Mary's Episcopal Church
St. Mary's, located at 1836 East Main Street in Mohegan Lake, will be open from 9 am - 7 pm Thursday and Friday.

“These are great, socially distant locations where our neighbors can seek temporary relief from the heat,” said Supervisor Matt Slater. “I encourage anyone who needs a break from the heat to visit these venues and to respect their rules.”

In the event of a power outage, an emergency cooling center at the Albert A. Capellini Community and Cultural Center will allow residents to spend the night.
