Multiple Road Closers Due to Tractor Trailer Hitting Multiple Telephone Poles Along Granite Springs Road ... Click for Further Details

This morning a tractor trailer took down multiple phone and cable lines, beginning at Hickory Street and ending at or near Route 202 at Granite Springs Road. Verizon and Optimum Cable have been alerted.

An investigation into the causation of this incident is ongoing. Granite Springs Road is CLOSED to through traffic from Hickory Street to Route 202.

Unless you live on Granite Springs Road between Route 202 and Hickory Street, use an alternate route.

Quinlan Street is CLOSED at Granite Springs Road. If you live on Quinlan south of London Road, please use London and be patient if you encounter our Highway Dept as milling along Quinlan began today. If you do not live in this area, please use alternate routes.

The Yorktown Police Department has lost phone access. The 911 lines are working. Please understand, that if you do call YPD using 911, unless it is an emergency, personnel on the desk will need to be brief in an effort to keep these 911 lines open for emergencies. We were just able to reroute calls from our fax line, so one line at 962-4141 is currently working. The Yorktown Town Court and Yorktown Refuse and Recycling also do not have phone service. We know that many in the community have lost land phone lines, cable and possibly internet. The damage done may take 24-48 hours to fix. Town Government is addressing these requested repairs. The goal will be to hopefully beat those estimates.

Yorktown PD has implemented Incident Command protocols in the above mentioned areas. Help us, help you and try to avoid this area. While these are phone and cable lines out there, we're treating them as energized, and you all should as well. Electric current can travel miles on fixed objects like guardrails and street signs.
