Protocol in the Yorktown Justice Court

03/13/2020 - A message from The Hon. Salvatore Lagonia regarding COVID-19 protocol in the Yorktown Justice Court:

After meeting with officials this morning 03/13/20 and in communications with OCA,

The Yorktown Court is making the following declarations effective immediately:

  1. As at all times staff health and safety shall be an absolute priority. Anyone who feels ill must stay home and any staff member will be granted whatever assistance we can offer.

  2. All V&T ticket cases will be adjourned until after April 7, 2020 & plea offers and pleas by mail will be accepted.

  3. We will need to triage the criminal caseload in an effort to reduce density in the courtroom. Cases that have time constraints such as Felony Hearings and discovery issues, will remain on the calendars. All other cases will be adjourned into April. If legal counsel should request an earlier date, they must put their request in writing and we will review them in a case by case basis.

  4. Moving forward we will review for possibly holding more frequent criminal court sessions with less density, however we have to be mindful of sessions in other courts.

  5. The OCA protocol with appropriate signage shall remain in place. No-one who has traveled to or from China, Iran, South Korea or Italy in the past 15 days shall be allowed in the court building (including the lobby). Cleaning crew is to surface clean at least four times per day, including disinfecting door knobs.

  6. Security staff is to be briefed on proper protocols as above.

  7. Requests for adjournments of all cases shall be granted permissively.

  8. All civil actions and Landlord Tenant actions shall be adjourned until after April 7, 2020.

Thank you all for your cooperation, this is out of an abundance of caution to keep everyone safe.
