State DOT to Recalibrate Route 202 Traffic Lights

The New York Department of Transportation will recalibrate traffic lights on Route 202 to improve the signal operation on the corridor near the Taconic State Parkway.

On Thursday state officials contacted Supervisor Matt Slater and Highway Superintendent Dave Paganelli to inform them that state DOT will make the changes by mid-December. The state examined traffic lights along the corridor after receiving an Oct. 20 letter from the two elected officials about a general mistiming of lights in the area. The mistimed lights prompted messages to Town Hall from residents.

“I’m thankful to our residents who brought this problem to our attention,” said Supervisor Slater. “We try to have have eyes everywhere but it is important for our residents to tell us about problems they are witnessing. In this case we are all pleased with the outcome.”

Highway Superintendent Dave Paganelli added, “Since Route 202 is a State thoroughfare and not a local road we needed to work with our partners at the Department of Transportation to address this issue.”

The recalibration of the traffic lights on Route 202 is the latest road improvement this year.

In August, the Town completed the Mohegan Avenue retaining wall. In September town crews replaced 1,000 feet of drainage along Town roads, paved Forest Court, Sycamore Lane, Braddock Court, Sheila Court, Spillway Road, Dale Street, Knollwood Road, Sylvan Road, Mogul Road, and Bunney Court. The town is on its way to resurfacing nearly nine miles of road, 18% of which included milling.
