State Lifts Golf Course Stop-Work Order

07/24/20 - The New York Department of Environmental Conservation has lifted a cease and desist order at the Valley Fields Golf Course.

Yorktown Supervisor Matt Slater received a letter from the DEC today stating that the golf course has received a State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. The permit means that a March 3 stop-work order is lifted and renovation work at the nine-hole, par-3 public golf course can continue. The stop-work order was triggered due to work on the course in an area that is considered a state wetland.

“Yorktown recognizes the potential value of bringing Valley Fields Golf Course back to life but also the importance of following the rules,” said Supervisor Matt Slater. “As soon as town officials received the violation notice, we quickly formulated a resolution that included satisfying state environmental officials’ concerns.  We are now hopeful that this project will reach its full potential.”

Yorktown has a licensing agreement with RC Recreation Development to renovate and operate the course with a clubhouse and restaurant on the 12-acre site. The public golf course is located on Route 6 near the Taconic State Parkway and it closed in 2018. Renovation work began in the spring of 2019.
