Coronavirus Update for Nov 18th

From the desk of Supervisor Matt Slater:

Today's reports showed 16 new active cases in the Town of Yorktown bringing the total to 146. This marks the most active cases for our community since we started tracking this data in the Spring.

Yorktown's state of emergency remains in effect. This does not impose any restrictions on our schools, businesses or houses of worship. Masks are still required at all Town parks, recreation facilities and Town buildings.

Earlier today I spoke to the Superintendents from both Lakeland and Yorktown. Both districts continue to do all they can to keep our schools open and will continue to do so. Should New York State establish a cluster zone that impacts the Town of Yorktown the school districts will follow the established state guidelines.

As a reminder, cluster zones are only declared by New York State and are assigned mostly by zip code in correlation with the COVID infection rate. Town officials have not been given this data for our community. The only information we are provided are the new cases, active cases and total cases.

Therefore, if we want to keep New York State from instituting more restrictions on our community we must reduce the spread. This comes down to the same responsible choices the Town has encouraged since March: wear a mask, stay six feet away from people, wash your hands and if you don't feel well stay home!
