November 2nd COVID-19 Update

From the desk of Supervisor Matt Slater: COVID-19 Update:

We ended last week with 38 active cases in the Town of Yorktown. Today we begin with 33 active cases. As a reminder, active cases means those who have tested positive in a two week window which is the incubation timeframe of the virus.

County Executive Latimer reported today that as of Saturday there are 51 hospitalizations in Westchester County that are COVID related. In comparrison our active case load is equivalent to where Westchester County was at the end of May. Our county infection rate continues to hover around 2% of those tested which has more than doubled since Labor Day. Sadly, 16 Westchester residents died in the month of October.

To be clear, these numbers are indeed higher than the months of July, August and September but are not near the numbers we saw during the height of April and May. It is important to keep this in perspective but also remain vigilant in our continued efforts to keep the numbers relatively low.

Governor Cuomo announced this weekend a major change in travel restrictions into New York State. Now travelers must get tested within three days prior to arriving to New York, quarantine for at least three days upon arrival and get a test on the fourth day. Finally, tomorrow is Election Day. If you are going to the polls please wear a mask. Election officials expect large crowds and we know COVID will not take tomorrow off and neither can we. Please be respectful to your neighbors but also be respectful to our election workers. They are there to make sure your voice is heard and wearing a mask shows them the respect they deserve for their efforts.
