NYC Shuts Catskill Aqueduct Temporarily

The NYCDEP plans to shut down the Catskill Aqueduct on May 15, 2023, for up to 10-days. This duration includes 7 days for scheduled contract work on the Aqueduct, 2-days for contingency, and 1-day for resumption of flow. This work is for new aqueduct sampling equipment and a new customer tap.

The YWD receives it's treated water via the Northern Westchester Joint Water Works (NWJWW) Amawalk Reservoir & Catskill Aqueduct Filter Treatment Plants.

The shutdown of the Aqueduct will impact the NWJWW’s Catskill Water Treatment Facility for the duration of the shutdown. During this time all water provided to the residents will be from the NWJWW's Amawalk Water Treatment Facility. Although adequate capacity will be available to meet our water demand, we will not have a back-up supply in the event of an emergency. For this reason, the NWJWW along with it's partnering members, request the public conserve water as much as possible. Thank you.
