Yorktown Asks Federal Government for Information about Migrant Relocation

Supervisor Matt Slater is calling on the Department of Health and Human Services to release more detailed information about the alleged undocumented migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers the federal agency is transporting through the Westchester County Airport.

Supervisor Slater cited recent media reports about the transport of people in the custody of the federal agency. He demanded that the agency release information about the status of the migrants’ health, criminal history, educational needs, and projected lengths of stay at receiving facilities.

“There are many questions and concerns about this relocation program and the lack of information shared with county and municipal officials,” said Supervisor. “With local COVID-19 cases again surging, HHS officials must tell local officials about the details of their program, the participants and their vaccination status.”

On Sunday Westchester County Executive George Latimer stated via social media that the HSS is moving minors through the Westchester County Airport as part of an effort to reunite minors detained at the US-Mexico border with relatives in the region.
