Yorktown Hires Environmental, Traffic Consultants

The Town Board voted to hire environmental and traffic consultants.

On July 6, the Town Board hired Barton & Loguidice and Weston & Sampson for environmental review services. For traffic matters, the Town Board hired the Transpo Group.

“These consultants will play an important role in giving the Town Board and our staff valuable, independent expertise,” said Supervisor Matt Slater. “There is tremendous outside development interest in Yorktown, and we need consultants on our team to review proposals and to protect our community’s interests. By having multiple consultants, we can process our reviews faster and create a more efficient government for all stakeholders.”

Founded in 1961, Barton & Loguidice provides engineering, environmental science, planning and landscape architecture services.

Weston & Sampson is focused on assisting communities with the development and implementation of infrastructure plans as they relate to drainage, water, sewer, and roadways; environmental assessment in support of property acquisition and redevelopment; design of parks, playgrounds, and open spaces; implementation of renewable energy solutions; and more.

The Transpo Group specializes in helping communities develop creative transportation solutions through its planning, engineering and development services. Some of its projects include the University of Washington Medical Center expansion and a transportation master plan for the City of Seattle.

“With Yorktown being THE location in Northern Westchester for both housing and businesses, it was of great importance for us to make sure we have appropriate services available in the areas of wetlands and traffic,” said Councilman Ed Lachterman. “These consultants will help us in our decision-making process and our ability to move projects forward as we strive to balance progress with preservation.”

The traffic consultant hire is the latest effort by the Town Board to respond to residents’ concerns about traffic.

In May the Town Board hired the Sam Schwartz Company as its consultant. Yorktown’s point person at Sam Schwartz is Nanette Bourne, who has 30 years of experience with zoning options, master land use plans, complete streets and waterfront plans, and sustainability and resiliency plans. She also acted as the retained planning consultant for the villages of Mount Kisco, Pelham, Pelham Manor and the Town of Greenburgh.
