Yorktown Offers Facilities for Vaccine Site

Yorktown has asked state and county officials to consider opening a Covid-19 vaccination site in town to serve northern Westchester County residents.

“Yorktown has several senior living facilities, nursing homes, veteran halls, pharmacies, firehouses, ambulance corps, and town buildings that can be utilized to handle the massive number of residents that are already eligible to receive these vaccinations,” Supervisor Matt Slater and Town Clerk Diana Quast wrote in a January 15 letter. “Yorktown is one of the largest towns in Westchester County and its northern location makes it ideal for vast distribution to residents throughout not only Westchester County, but also Dutchess and Putnam counties due to their proximity and direct access to our community.”

County officials already use Yorktown buildings for events that draw large crowds. The county Board of Elections uses the Albert A. Capellini Community and Cultural Center Gym and the Jefferson Village Senior Community Room for voting.
