Yorktown Opens Sparkle Lake Beach for Swimming

Sparkle Lake Beach opened for public swimming today.

As part of the reopening, the town will enforce several rules in order to ensure social distancing and the health of patrons and public employees. The rules include a maximum of 100 patrons and a restriction to town residents only. The swimming will be daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. from June 22 until August 9.

Other rules include:

  • Proper identification must be shown to sign in at the entrance gate
  • Children 13 and older must provide an address and guardian contact if unaccompanied by an adult
  • Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult
  • Parking only in recreation parking lot
  • Masks/face coverings needed if social distancing is not possible
  • Groups must remain 10 feet apart on sand; only households may sit together
  • No swimming without lifeguard
  • No floats, Frisbees, ball playing, smoking, glass bottles, alcohol, tents, swim masks, fins or snorkels allowed
  • Umbrellas are allowed
  • Patrons must collect their trash and carry it to garbage cans, which have been doubled

“We’re very excited to have Sparkle Lake Beach open for the summer of 2020,” said Supervisor Matt Slater. “We have been very deliberate and methodical in our approach in reopening our town facilities. We will continue to be safe and smart to ensure our community is successful in flattening the curve. Only by keeping our Covid-19 transmission rates low can we proceed to opening more parks and playgrounds.”
