Yorktown Receives $5,000 Grant for Clean Energy Work
(June 24, 2022) – Yorktown will receive a $5,000 state grant in recognition of the Town’s successful clean energy promotion.
The $5,000 Action Grant is a result from Yorktown’s participation in NYSERDA’s Clean Energy Communities program, which encourages municipalities to promote community solar, clean heating/cooling and energy efficiency.
“As the stewards of our community, the Town Board and Town volunteers are serious about leaving our future generations a healthy and sustainable environment,” said Supervisor Matt Slater. “This grant acknowledges the hard work we’ve done and motivates us to continue our journey to reducing our carbon footprint for our Town buildings and operations.”
Yorktown’s clean energy work includes a partnership with Sustainable Westchester, a non-profit organization that offers residents multiple volunteer renewable energy and energy efficiency programs. Currently, Yorktown is working with Sustainable Westchester to promote Westchester Power, a community-based bulk energy purchasing program intended to control costs and increase the use of renewable energy in Westchester County.
Yorktown officials’ recent clean-energy approvals include:
- Electric charging stations at the Jefferson Valley Mall and Staples Plaza.
- An 11-acre solar array at Kitchawan Farm
- Legislation to allow Town residents to opt into Sustainable Westchester’s Community Choice Aggregation Program
- A six-acre solar array at Arcadia Farm
