Yorktown Traffic Signal Repaired

Routes 202 and 132 Intersection

The New York State Department of Transportation repaired a traffic signal at the intersection of Routes 132 and 202 that was a source of residents’ complaints.

Supervisor Matt Slater and Highway Superintendent Dave Paganelli wrote to the state DOT on February 10 requesting an inspection of signals at the intersection. The state subsequently repaired the detection equipment at the intersection and changed the operation of the traffic signal so that the turn arrows come up before the through traffic on the opposing approach.

“Town Hall relies on our residents to alert us to problems in the community,” said Supervisor Slater. “We take complaints seriously, especially when we receive multiple complaints about the same matter. I’m thankful to the state DOT for its quick response.”

The DOT also increased the timing for the yellow and red clearance phases to address residents’ complaints.

“This is a heavily trafficked intersection that relies on a properly functioning traffic light,” said Superintendent Paganelli. “We appreciate the State’s response to ensure safety features motorists rely on are of the highest caliber.”

The DOT’s action is the latest improvement on Route 202.

In mid-December, the DOT recalibrated traffic lights on Route 202 to improve the signal operation on the corridor near the Taconic State Parkway. The state examined traffic lights along the corridor after receiving an Oct. 20 letter from Supervisor Matt Slater about a general mistiming of lights in the area that had prompted resident complaints.
