Arbor Day Poster Contest

Arbor Day Poster Contest

This year's Arbor Day event will take place on April 28, 2023, at 4:00 PM. We are once again conducting our very popular poster contest, which will be the highlight of the ceremony. The location will be the in front of Yorktown Town Hall, or in case of rain, inside the Town Board Room. Poster entries will be displayed inside Town Hall.

The Town enthusiastically supports this event and we are pleased to announce that winning posters will be made into banners and hung from streetlights in Yorktown Heights next year. Previous years’ winning poster designs will be on display, beginning in April.

The announcement of Poster Contest Winners will be made at the Arbor Day Ceremony. Finalists will be notified in the week prior to the ceremony.

Arbor Day is celebrated in towns and cities across the United States, inspiring people to plant and nurture trees, which enhance and beautify their communities. Getting everyone involved is important, both nationally and locally. Visit www.arborday.org for information about Arbor Day and the Arbor Day Foundation.

Eligibility: The poster design contest is open to all 4th and 5th grade students in the Town of Yorktown.

Theme: The poster design should highlight this year’s theme: “The Life of a Leaf”—How do leaves help trees? What do they provide for humans and the environment? What do they provide for various animals and insects? How do they start? How do they end? Think about what leaves do – and make that into a poster!

Design Guidelines:

  • All entries must be vertical (not horizontal). A title or caption can be included.
  • High contrast color recommended. Remember, winning submissions will be made into banners that need to be clearly visible to passing cars. Any form of coloring product is acceptable: crayons, markers, paint, colored pencils, etc.
  • Poster paper size 22” x 28” is best. White poster paper only.
  • No poetry or prose entries.
  • We cannot accept entries with TV/movie trademarked characters due to copyright issues.
  • All entries must clearly indicate the full name, school, and grade of student(s) on the back of the poster.

Winners: Three winners will be chosen for each grade. Submissions can be from an individual or a team, but all entries will be judged as individual submissions.

Entry Deadline: Submissions are due April 18, 2023.

Submission: Please have students submit their entries directly to their art teacher to make pickup more efficient. Students not associated with a local school art program may be submitted to the Planning Department located in the Albert A. Capellini Community & Cultural Center at 1974 Commerce Street.
