Yorktown Outdoor Movies Draw Big Crowd

Movie Night

Yorktown’s summer outdoor movie nights returned last month with four films at two locations.

About 50 cars came to the Jefferson Valley Mall’s parking lot on May 13 to watch a Star Wars movie in a socially distanced environment that promoted family togetherness and outdoor fun.

“Just like last year, we had a great turnout. Our residents are hungry for wholesome, safe activities and we are grateful to our sponsors for helping us put on a show,” said Supervisor Matt Slater.

This summer’s events are sponsored by NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital and the Yorktown Lions Club.

“The mission of NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital is to provide high quality, compassionate care that supports the health and well-being of our patients and the communities we serve,” said Stacey Petrower, president of NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital. “We are pleased to work with the Town of Yorktown and the Parks and Recreation Department to support fun, safe events that the whole family can enjoy.”

The next outdoor movies will be held on June 10 at the Jefferson Valley Mall parking lot and on July 8 and August 12 at Veterans’ Field. Admission is $5 per vehicle. Registration for the films will open a week before at https://register.capturepoint.com/Yorktown.

“Yorktown Parks and Recreation is extremely excited to bring back our Mobile Movie Nights at the Jefferson Valley Mall, as well as our Screening Under the Stars nights at Veterans Field,” said parks Superintendent James Martorano. “We would not be able to put on such great events without our amazing sponsors in NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital and the Yorktown Lions Club. These community leaders are a dream to work with and like us, always have the community’s well-being and happiness as their top priority.”

The films will be projected on an inflatable 23-by-16-foot screen that will be set up by the Peekskill-based Fun Time Amusements, which runs the Play Connection store inside the mall. Vehicles will be directed by recreation employees to socially distant parking spots. Attendees are free to watch the film from inside their vehicles or on lawn chairs from a designated spot in front of or behind their vehicles.
