Yorktown's Grace Lutheran Church Cereal Drive Collects 805 Boxes

February 29, 2024 – Grace Lutheran Church’s cereal drive collected 805 boxes of breakfast food for a local pantry.

The drive was a team effort between the Yorktown Lions, which collected 504 boxes, and the church, which collected 301 boxes. The drive at the church concluded on February 8 and it benefited the Community Food Pantry in Mohegan Lake, an all-volunteer staffed service that has been in operation almost 40 years.

“Time and again we are reminded about Yorktown residents’ profound generosity when it comes to helping their neighbors,” said Deputy Supervisor Ed Lachterman, a former president of the Yorktown Lions. “The winter months after the holidays are a tough time for pantries, so these donations will help them support families that need extra help.”

National Cereal Day is March 7. According to CivicScience.com, nearly three-quarters of American households (70%) eat cereal, and more than half eat it on a weekly basis.
