COVID-19 Update 4/20/20

Total Confirmed Cases:
Yorktown – 362
Westchester County – 24,317
New York State – 247,512

The numbers continue to show a plateau which is a result of strong social distancing policies.  Working with our partners on the Federal, State and County levels we continue to guard against a rebound.

Tax Deadline: The deadline for local taxes remains April 30th.  The Town of Yorktown is still required to pay the $12,000,000 tax warrant to Westchester County on May 26th.  Town spending remains nearly frozen except for basic essentials and COVID-19 related needs but expected revenue since the begging of March has been significantly deficient.  Therefore, anyone who can pay their tax bill is urged to do so by the deadline.

North County Trailway: On today’s conference call with County Executive Latimer he stated the trailway will remain open.  It is imperative that the public continue to observe social distancing when using the North County Trailway as well as masks or covering if social distancing cannot be observed.

Mohansic Golf Course: Today Westchester County announced it would be opening two public golf courses: Mohansic and Hudson Hills.  Both will be opening this weekend but operate under the following guidelines:

  • Golfers are asked to check in early for tee times. A minimal number of guests are allowed in the pro shop at one time.
  • Tee times have longer intervals between them and reduction of operating hours is being implemented.
  • Flagsticks are to be left in the holes untouched and bunkers are not to be raked by golfers.
  • Rakes, ball washers and coolers have been removed from the courses.
  • Golfers are instructed to not gather in groups or clusters while on or off the golf course.
  • Restaurants at both courses are closed for both seated and takeout service.

COVID-19 Testing: While New York State has not provided a drive-up testing site I have been made aware several urgent cares and medical practices in Yorktown are providing COVID-19 tests.  It is important to note these tests are limited and meant for symptomatic individuals.  Residents are encouraged to contact their local healthcare provider if they feel they need to be tested.

Town Board Meeting: The Town Board is scheduled to hold a regular meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, April 21st.  Residents can watch the meeting on Optimum Channel 20, Fios Channel 33 or on the Town’s website.  Those wishing to participate in courtesy of the floor are required to register with the Town Clerk by emailing your name, phone number and email address to dquast@yorktownny.org.
