    Maintaining Your Septic System

    Beginning on May 1, 2011, the owner of any parcel located within the Town of Yorktown which relies upon a Separate Sewage Disposal System/On-site Wastewater Treatment System (a septic system) must have the system inspected once every five (5) years.

    The Environmental Inspector is the duly-appointed Town official primarily charged with the duty of enforcing the Town's environmental laws, including Chapter 165 (Erosion and Sediment Control), and Chapter 140 (Conservation Areas) of the Code of the Town of Yorktown.

    Wetlands Consultant

    It is the goal of the Town of Yorktown to ensure that there is no overall net loss of the Town's remaining wetland resources, including wetland buffer areas. Additionally, it is the long term goal of the Town to increase the quantity and quality of the Town's wetlands resources in terms of type, functions, geographic location and setting and size.

    Town of Yorktown Stormwater Initiative

    In March of 2003, the New York State Department of Conservation (NYSDEC) under the direction of the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) instituted Phase II of the stormwater program for towns such as Yorktown which were identified as “MS4’s”. An MS4 is a Municipality town which utilizes “Separate Storm Sewer Systems” to drain rain water and snow melt from roads, parking lots and other sources to receiving waters such as streams, lakes, wetlands and reservoirs.
