Don’t be fooled by fake email

Yorktown residents are urged to be on the lookout for fake emails that have recently been received at Town Hall and elsewhere in the community.

Supervisor Matt Slater cited an email that asks the recipient to respond “discretely” by email. The fake email came from a Gmail account and not from an official Yorktown address.

Email users should be aware that any communications from Supervisor Slater or other town officials have Yorktown’s email address that ends in @yorktownny.org

If a recipient of an email is unsure that the email originated with a Yorktown official, recipients should look at the email’s “From:” line and carefully review the sending email address. An image about how to spot a fake email is attached.
