Executive Order #3

Town of Yorktown

3/16/2020 - Yorktown Supervisor Matt Slater issued new emergency orders Monday 03/16/20 to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the community.

Supervisor Slater will hold a 6 p.m. briefing at Town Hall today 03/16/20 to discuss his emergency orders.

The orders are:

  1. All town playgrounds, ball fields and swimming pools are closed. Town-owned passive recreation areas such as trails remain open.

  2. All supermarkets, grocery stores, convenience stores and warehouse clubs are ordered to establish meaningful daily shopping times of no less than 30 minutes that are reserved for senior citizens and individuals with respiratory ailments or compromised immunity. The notice of the special shopping times must be conspicuously posted by the affected businesses on their premises.

The full text of the orders will be placed on the town’s website. The orders are issued in accordance with the declaration of a local emergency made on Friday 03/13/20.

The declaration of a local state of emergency gives the town supervisor the authority to issue emergency orders that could include curfews, regulating movement into and out of certain areas and ordering public places closed, among other powers.

"Just as our state and national leaders are taking aggressive measures to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus, we must do the same locally,” said Yorktown Supervisor Slater. “We are committed to working with our local businesses to protect the welfare of our most vulnerable residents."
