FDR State Park Hurricane Sandy Cleanup Day

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, NY (11/9/12) – Hurricane Sandy roared through Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park (FDR) on Monday October 29. Over 100 down trees and debris remain in her wake. Park staff is removing the fallen trees with help from other New York State Park facilities, but more help is needed.

The Friends of FDR invite you to join them for a few hours November 17th from 9:30 am - 3:00 pm. Volunteers will help rake debris and move branches. Dress in layers of work clothes and bring work gloves. Tools will be provided, but bring a rake if you can.

The park is doing its part to help the surrounding communities. The pool parking lot is the site for temporary housing site for 500 people assisting with relief efforts.

To join the effort on November 17, from the Taconic State Parkway, take the exit to FDR State Park. After the entrance booths, bear left at the triangle and then turn right into Parking Lot 1. Check in is at Pavilion 1, a stone building on the east side of the parking lot. Participants may contact Susan Butterfass at the Park Office to sign up.
