There are two Town Justices who are elected to four year terms of office. The Yorktown Justice Court is a full time court, open 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, five days a week, where residents can pay for traffic fines, initiate claims, both civil and small claims, and receive transcripts of judgements, plus any advice relative to court procedures.
The Court is in session:
Tuesday at 4:00 PM (Civil & Small Claims), 6 pm (Criminal) - Justice Lagonia
Thursday at 4:00 PM (Civil & Small Claims), 6 pm (Criminal) - Justice Raniolo
Several days a month are set aside where persons who plead not guilty to a traffic violation may have their day in court.
In addition to the Traffic Court, the Town has a Juvenile Justice Program which involves Court referred community service, staffed by several persons for youths between the ages of 16 and 19 who may have committed misdemeanors or a lower violation. Rather than spending time in the penal system, they are referred to a given amount of community service in the Town of yorktown.
The Town also participates in a voluntary mediation program with mediators staffed from the Mediation Center based in Rye for disputes between individual in diagreement to seek a mediated determination or resolution without going before a judge.
