Deputy Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman announces that following consultation with Police Chief Robert M. Noble and Highway Superintendent David Paganelli, a Snow Emergency is being declared in Yorktown, February 12, 2024, effective 11:00 PM.  The Snow Emergency is expected to remain in effect until 12:00 PM February 13, 2024 unless rescinded by a subsequent order.

TOWN HALL WILL OPEN AT 10:00 AM.

A declaration of Snow Emergency is intended to assist Yorktown’s Highway Department in its effort to clear the roads of snow, and, to assist the Town’s emergency service agencies such as police, fire and emergency medical services in their efforts to respond to emergencies.

Yorktown Code 275-14 clearly articulates that “any vehicle parked or abandoned on a public highway in the Town of Yorktown during a snowstorm, flood, fire or other public emergency which affects that portion of the public highway upon which said vehicle is parked or abandoned may be removed by or under the direction of The Chief of Police or the Superintendent of Highways and stored in any suitable place.” The owner of any vehicle that has been towed will need to present proof of ownership at the Yorktown Police Department prior to retrieving his or her vehicle.  Inquiries concerning vehicles should be made to the Yorktown Police Department at 962-4141.

Deputy Town Supervisor Lachterman is requesting that Yorktown’s residents refrain from operating vehicles on Town roads during the period of the Snow Emergency.  If the need arises, operation of motor vehicles on Town roads will be prohibited during the Snow Emergency.  Highway Superintendent Paganelli wishes to remind residents not to deposit snow onto plowed roadways, which is a violation of Yorktown Code 250-29(D).

To report downed wires, road blockages, and non-life-threatening issues, contact (914) 962-4141. Treat all downed wires as if they are live, and be mindful that downed wires can be hidden from view by tree limbs, leaves, etc.
