State DOT to Clear Yorktown Debris Site

The state Department of Transportation informed Yorktown officials that it will clear an unsightly debris field this summer.

The debris site at the intersection of routes 100 and 118 contains fallen trees and branches that are too large for the state’s standard woodchippers. On Monday, the state agency informed Supervisor Matt Slater and highway Superintendent Dave Paganelli that the DOT will sign a contract with a company that specializes in chipping large pieces of debris.

“We received several calls from residents who are concerned about the unattractive conditions at the DOT dumping area, so I’m pleased to learn that in response to our outreach the state DOT will take action to remove this mess,” said Supervisor Slater.

The state DOT began putting the debris at the site in response to several damaging wind events over the past few years.
