YORKTOWN CAMP HEALTH DIRECTOR

DURATION: July 1-August 2, 2024 – Camp is not in session on July 4

CAMP HOURS/DAYS: Monday-Friday, 8 AM -3:15 PM, some flexibility may be needed.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Supervises health and sanitation during summer camp; does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Under the general supervision of the Senior Recreation Leader, incumbent functions as the designated camp health director, with responsibility for health and sanitation, as required by the New York State Department of Health in Chapter 1 of the State Sanitary Code, Subpart 7-2 (Children's Camps).

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)

Supervises health and sanitation in town Recreation Department's camp program;

Oversees holding area for ill or injured campers;

Review and maintain campers’ confidential medical histories;

Handle health emergencies and injuries, including emergency preparedness and follow-up for professional health care;

Maintain medical records including treatment log;

On-site Administers first aid;

Maintains and inventories medical equipment and supplies;

Witnesses self-administration of prescription and over-the-counter medication;

Conducts inspections with the Department of Health

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES: Good knowledge of nursing principles and techniques and their relation to medical practices and skill in their application; skill in the application of nursing techniques and practices; ability to understand and follow technical, oral and written instructions; ability to keep records and make reports; ability to get along with campers, parents, and other staff; good observation; mental alertness; patience; sympathetic attitude toward the sick; cheerfulness; physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Must hold EMT certification or higher and be at least 18 years of age.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AT TIME OF APPOINTMENT: (1) Possession of a license issued by the State of New York to practice as a EMT or higher(LPN, RN, PA, MD, etc.); and (2) Possession of a current certificate in Responding to Emergencies first aid issued by the American Red Cross (ARC), or other certifying agency approved by the State Commissioner of Health; (3) Possession of current certificate, not exceeding one year in duration, in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer issued by the ARC or other certifying agency approved by the State Commissioner of Health.

Salary range: $22-$27 per hour
