COVID-19 Update

From the desk of Supervisor Matt Slater:  COVID-19 Update

As of today there are 224 active COVID-19 cases within our community which is half of the total we saw in early January.

Vaccine distribution continues to increase as the supply grows.  Over the weekend Johnson & Johnson was approved by the FDA and an estimated 4 million vaccines were already being shipped nationwide today.

Beginning this week Westchester Community College will be used to vaccinate people over 65 years old. Seniors who need assistance setting up appointments can call 813-6300.  As a reminder, local pharmacies received vaccine doses to use for people over 65 years old.

There have been some additional announcements including:

  • Hotel workers are now eligible to be vaccinated.
  • Food pantry workers are now eligible to be vaccinated.
  • Movie theaters can re-open at 25% starting on 3/5 (50 person limit per theater).
  • Indoor amusement places can re-open at 25% starting on 3/26.
  • Outdoor amusement parks can re-open at 33% starting on 4/9.

We await guidance from the State and Westchester County Department of Health as it relates to the reopening of weddings and other outdoor events beginning 3/15.

While much of this is positive news it does not mean we should ignore the preventative measures that we know work.  We all must continue to make smart choices, wear a mask, wash our hands and social distance.
