Catskill Aqueduct To Shut Down 11/30/20 For Approximately 75 Days

From Matthew Geho,  Operations Director of  the Northern Westchester Joint Water Works (operates the two water treatment plants serving Yorktown):

"On Monday November 30, 2020 NYCDEP will be shutting down the Catskill Aqueduct for ~75 days.  The Catskill plant will be taken offline on Monday morning so our Raw water pumps can be locked out per NYCDEP’s lock out requirements.

Over the weekend the Amawalk Plant production will be increased to accommodate the pending shutdown.  Although, we plan to slowly ramp up production and pumping from Amawalk we may experience 1) discolored water and 2) change in taste and odor profiles. This will result from flows within our transmission mains being reversed and different source water being used for treatment. The conversion of source water within the various distribution systems may take a week or two to fully flush out."

Should you experience any water quality issues, please call the Yorktown Water District at 914-245-6111. Thank you.
