Yorktown’s Skate Park to Close for Renovation

(August 23, 2022) – The Patriot Skate Park will receive its first renovation in 15 years.

The Parks and Recreation Department will close the skate park on August 29 for the rehabilitation, which is expected to last through the end of September.

“This work will improve the park’s safety and preserve this beloved destination for skaters of all levels,” said Supervisor Matt Slater. “This is the latest park to receive upgrades under our aggressive plan to enhance recreational safety and enjoyment for our youth.”

New or renovated playground openings in the past year include the adaptive playground at Granite Knolls; the basketball courts at Railroad Park; and the new batting cage and refurbished dugouts at Chelsea Park.

Repairs at the skate park will unfold in three phases. The first phase will address the ramps farthest from Town Hall, which will be disassembled, stripped, and fitted with a new composite sheet. Some of the ramps will receive new internal support layers and all the structures’ metal parts will be repainted and sealed.

“The Department is confident that we will meet our deadline for this repair,” said parks Superintendent James Martorano, Jr. “We will have a better sense of an exact reopening date in mid-September, when we hope to announce a park-improvement ribbon cutting.”
