Yorktown Planning Board Approves New Retail

The Yorktown Planning Board approved a new retail building in Mohegan Lake on Monday.

Envirogreen Associates received permission to remove two existing buildings at 1833-1875 E. Main Street so that it can build a new 12,400-square-foot retail building with associated parking, landscaping, lighting and stormwater improvements. The owner of the 1.6-acre property has not yet announced any tenant for the land, which is zoned for retail, food, or personal services businesses.

“The approval of the Envirogreen project demonstrates that Yorktown is open for business,” said Supervisor Matt Slater. “My administration is committed to attracting new businesses and shopping options to ease the property tax burden on our homeowners.”

The approval is the latest redevelopment effort in Yorktown.

In May, construction began on the new, 12,504-square-foot Trader Joe’s market at 3200 Crompond Road. In April, the owner of 3700 Barger Street demolished a dilapidated service station to make way for a new service station, the Elmsford-based CoCo Farms.

In January, Oster Properties of Englewood Cliffs, N.J. unveiled concepts for a residential-retail complex at the Yorktown Green shopping center that would include the demolition of an empty Kmart and re-tenanting the long vacant Food Emporium supermarket. Also, in January, the Town Board approved a flex-space use for a lot at 1600 Front St. that will allow the construction of a research and development facility for green technology by SK Energy Holdings.
