Yorktown Prepares for Reopening

04/29/20 - The Town Board made several decisions last night in order to prepare for the reopening of Yorktown and to position the community for economic recovery.

Action taken by town officials so far include:

  • A vote to offer all municipal employees Covid-19 antibodies testing.
  • An agreement to stockpile masks, gloves and protective gowns in anticipation of the fall/winter flu/Covid-19 season.
  • A vote to give Supervisor Matt Slater authority to issue an executive order creating an expedited permit process for restaurants that want to offer sidewalk dining when restaurants are permitted to offer in-house dining.
  • New virtual inspections by building inspectors in order to help on-going construction project advance.

“We cannot prepare for the eventual reopening of Town Hall, the library or the community center without first ensuring the safety of our public workers,” said Supervisor Slater. “In the coming weeks residents can expect to read about more announcements on our efforts to reboot Yorktown.”

No date has been set for the beginning of the antibody testing. New York State on Pause is scheduled to expire on May 15, but state officials have indicated that only sparsely populated regions of New York may have restrictions lifted. The state’s lockdown is expected to continue past May 15 in Westchester County.
