Turkey Trot Raises $2,000 for Yorktown Pantry

Yorktown Supervisor Tom Diana, Cindy Smith of St. Mary’s food pantry and Sen. Terrence Murphy hold a $2,000 check for St. Mary’s

March 16, 2022 – Sen. Terrence Murphy’s 2022 Turkey Trot recently delivered a $2,000 check to St. Mary’s food pantry.

Sen. Murphy delivered the check to the Community Food Pantry at St. Mary’s in Mohegan Lake as part of the proceeds from his November 24 charity event. The pantry is an all-volunteer service that has operated from the church for about 40 years.

Supervisor Tom Diana accompanied Sen. Murphy to deliver the check.

“We know from our Food Security Task Force that the need for pantries is growing in our community, so I’m grateful that Sen. Murphy’s Turkey Trot will support St. Mary’s as it helps our neighbors who are struggling with rising food costs,” said Supervisor Diana.

The Community Food Pantry is a self-select pantry, serving three meals for three days. Food items for the day are on display so that guests may make choices. Frozen meats, poultry and/or fish are part of the weekly distribution.

St. Mary’s needs donations for its Easter distribution. Items needed include hams, frozen lasagna, canned vegetables, canned fruit, baking goods, instant mashed potatoes, gravy, soups, coffee, and tea. The pantry also needs gender-neutral Easter baskets. Details about the donations are posted on St. Mary’s Facebook page.
