December 20, 2022 – Chabad of Yorktown held its annual celebration of Chanukah on Sunday with a menorah lighting and a walk down Commerce Street.

The Menorah Lighting Ceremony was held at the Jack DeVito Veterans Memorial Field & Track. The event included singing, hot latkes, Chanukah crafts, Chanukah-themed giveaways, and Chanukah Judaica items for sale

“It’s beautiful to see the Town alive with the spirit of Chanukah and the spirit of unity,” said Rabbi Yehuda Heber. “Chanukah is a time of joy and giving. It is a time to celebrate the power of positivity, truth and justice.”

Chanukah is an eight-day Jewish festival that reaffirms the ideals of Judaism and commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple of Jerusalem by the lighting of candles on each day of the festival.

“I always look forward to this night and once again hearing the story of the Maccabees and the importance of having perseverance, strength and faith when facing such challenging times,” said Supervisor Matt Slater. “Our community has indeed faced difficult times these past few years, but we’ve stayed together, we’ve worked together, and we’ve overcome those challenges.”
