Yorktown Declares April 30 Arbor Day

(April 27, 2021) - Yorktown declares April 30 Arbor Day; free seedlings to be given away at Hart Library in Shrub Oak from 2:00 – 5:00 PM.

Arbor Day is celebrated in towns and cities across the United States, inspiring people to plant and nurture trees, which enhance the environment and beautify communities. Visit www.arborday.org for information about Arbor Day and the Arbor Day Foundation.

The Town Board has declared Friday, April 30 as Arbor Day in the Town of Yorktown. While we will not have a public ceremony this year, we are pleased to announce that
free White Pine seedl ings wil l be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis from the porch of the John C. Hart Memorial Library, 1130 Main Street, Shrub Oak. Please wear a mask and observe social distancing. Seedlings were made available by a generous donation from Saw Mill River Audubon.

We are also pleased to announce that, in honor of Arbor Day, Tom Schmitt of the Yorktown Tree Conservation Advisory Commission has donated a Pin Oak to be planted
on the grounds of the Hart Library.

This year marks the 10th year that Yorktown has been recognized as a Tree City USA. A plaque marking this achievement will be presented to Yorktown Supervisor Matt Slater by Lawrence Klein of the Yorktown Tree Conservation Advisory Commission. As a Tree City USA, Yorktown joins communities across the United States recognized for their effective forest management and commitment to environmental preservation.

Additionally, participation in the Tree City USA program furthers civic pride through volunteer engagement and public education.
